Deadzone Rogue 2 Controls

The sequel keeps the first game’s FPS grammar: sprint, slide, hipfire, ADS, melee, and grenades, with a pause menu that also handles drop-in co-op. Exact labels can shift between alpha, demo, and 1.0, so treat this as the default PC layout plus console notes. Remap anything that fights your muscle memory before a Nightmare run.

PC defaults (keyboard and mouse)

Movement

  • W A S D — Move
  • Space — Jump
  • Left Shift — Sprint
  • Left Ctrl — Slide
  • C — Crouch

Sliding is not a panic button. Use it to break line of sight, reload behind cover, and close distance on shotgun rooms. Stacking movement speed imprints from the Neural Lattice makes slides cover more ground — useful, but easy to overshoot into a hunter patrol.

Combat

  • Left mouse — Fire
  • Right mouse — Aim down sights
  • R — Reload
  • G — Grenade
  • Q — Melee
  • E — Interact / revive

Hipfire is a real build path, not a beginner crutch. Hipfire augments tighten spread and raise proc chance, which is why SMGs like the VLR Arcblade melt rooms without ADS. Precision builds still want ADS plus Weakspot augments.

Equipment

  • 1 — Primary
  • 2 — Secondary
  • 3 — Melee weapon
  • Tab — Inventory / loadout
  • Esc — Pause (join friends, settings, glossary)

Hold Left Shift on synergy or augment cards when the UI offers extra tooltips. That habit from Deadzone Rogue still saves bad picks.

Controller (PlayStation and Xbox)

Expect a standard shooter map:

  • Left stick move, right stick look
  • L3 sprint, Circle / B or a face button for slide (confirm in-game)
  • RT / R2 fire, LT / L2 ADS
  • Y / Triangle switch weapons
  • LB / L1 grenade, RB / R1 melee (layout may swap in settings)
  • X / Square interact and revive

Controllers excel at hipfire and slide chaining. Mouse still wins raw flick crits. In mixed co-op, say your input type so the burst player can take sniper duties.

Settings that matter

Sensitivity

Start with a lower look speed than your other FPS titles. Elemental proc builds reward tracking, not 360 flicks. Raise ADS sensitivity separately if snipers feel sticky.

Accessibility and HUD

  • Scale HUD so ammo and proc icons stay readable in violet/lime VFX
  • Turn on subtitles for Talon 13-10 callouts during story beats
  • Recolor the reticle if lime-on-fog washes out in Earth biomes
  • Enable the in-game glossary and stat viewer from the hub — they explain perks, augments, and enemy types without leaving a run

Audio

Hunter patrols and sniper lasers are easier to hear than to see. Keep music a step below SFX until you know spawn tells.

Combat habits tied to binds

  1. Reload in slide or behind cover, never standing in a doorway.
  2. Grenade on cooldown against elites; do not save all three squad nades for one boss if trash is still up.
  3. Melee is a finisher and a stealth opener, not a primary on Nightmare unless you committed to a melee build.
  4. Interact is also revive. Bind it where your thumb already lives.
  5. Pause is how friends drop in. Do not hide the join prompt under a nested menu if you can help it.

Common mistakes

  • Binding slide and crouch to the same key, then eating air shots
  • Leaving invert-Y on from another game
  • Maxing mouse DPI so Lightning crits cannot track a strafing elite
  • Never opening the glossary, then blaming “random” procs
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What are the default PC controls?

WASD to move, Shift to sprint, Ctrl to slide, left click fire, right click ADS, R reload, G grenade, Q melee, E interact, 1–3 weapons, Tab inventory.

Can I remap keys?

Yes. Open settings from the pause menu before a run and remap anything that fights your habits, especially slide and interact.

Is hipfire viable?

Yes. Hipfire augments can outperform ADS on SMGs and shotguns when you stack proc chance.

How do I join a friend?

There is no lobby. Open the pause menu during their run and drop in. Cross-platform play is confirmed for the full game on PC, PS5, and Xbox.

Where do I see what a synergy does?

When picking synergies, hold Left Shift (or the controller equivalent) to open the extra tooltip, and use the glossary in the pause menu.
